The Cloisonné Blue Elephants

The blue elephants walk at sunrise

The day is new, and they recognize the sun,

The blue elephants don’t talk, since

It’s early, and one must not talk when the sun appears.

The blue elephants walk in the dessert,

How many miles are enough for an elephant?

They wonder.

The blue elephants speak softly,

As the wind reminds them there’s more walking ahead.

The blue elephants feel the sand,

And their whispers get lost in the breeze,

As they feel the scent of the past return,

And their feet are almost salt.

The blue elephants, cloisonné blue elephants,

With feet of salt, and eyes of yesterday, walk,

They walk and they are blue, more blue than before,

And the dunes are theirs.
