Alligator in the Swamp

The day you left, an alligator visited me

In my dreams. Lost, in the Florida

Swamp, the alligator was the only

Response, to me calling your name.

Green and brown vegetation around me,

And an alligator approaching slowly.

I tried to move, but my feet remained

Stuck in the swamp.

The same swamps we knew so well,

The swamp of our youthful travels.

The water reflecting now my fears,

And your absence.

The gator stopped not far from me,

And I realized it had your eyes.

Not only my feet were immobile,

  I also couldn’t say a word.

In the alligator eyes, your eyes,

I saw two shapes going separate ways.
