Reunion

The elephants met in the middle

Of the afternoon, some time after

Not seeing each other. They both tried

To hide their excitement.

Days of solitude are hard,

And months can feel like years.

It was as if they had forgotten

How much of themselves they could show.

The sun was bright, and the vastness

Around them, made a perfect scenario

 For their reunion. Yet, they pretended

To be calm, even solemn.

It wasn’t long before one of them smiled,

And the other reciprocated. They had

Missed each other, and it was okay

To express it.

Two elephants no longer lonely,

Meeting on an otherwise uneventful

Tuesday. Two friends reunited,

While the world moves forward.
