Memories of a Sailing Day

The calm water, moves barely,

Almost still. While the sailboat

Floats forward, and you look down

At our reflection.

You tell me what the two shapes in

The water are doing, what they are

Saying, and what they are thinking.

They look surprisingly like us.

The sun is strong, so strong some

Of the green around us looks almost

Yellow, like in an old film.

No clouds, the breeze just a whisper.

The palm trees, tall and thin palm

Trees, perfectly tropical palm trees,

Gracious and flexible palm trees,

Look down at their reflection too.

The water now doesn’t move,

The breeze has disappeared, and the

Boat is still. Our reflection looks at us,

Just how we want to be remembered.
