The Elephants Came to Town

When the elephants came to town,

We were playing on the street,

And their too large forms moved

Forward, as we stood incredulous.

They were still far, when someone

Yelled, “Two elephants coming down

The road!” and we all looked up,

But we already could feel their steps.

Some ran away, but we stayed,

Not because we weren’t afraid,

But because something stopped us

From going leaving.

People say when you’re scared you

Are paralyzed, but it wasn’t fear, it was

Faith. We believed something special was

Coming our way, someday.

The elephants came close to us,

They were intimidating, but we didn’t

Move. We were expecting them,

Something good had finally come to our town.
