Artichokes like Comets
Visiting Cranes
Yesterday we saw a pair of cranes
Fly by, and their long necks, their
Sculpted legs, and their colorful
Wings in our memories rest now.
Yesterday we saw a pair of cranes
Play, and they seemed happy, floating
In the sunlight, making figures in the
Wind, while we smiled.
They came unexpectedly, as free
Animals do, and joined us in our
Calm afternoon. They flew around us,
And we all became one.
The cranes offered us their friendship,
They offered us their time, and we
In the peaceful afternoon welcomed
Them, wishing we too could fly.
Today the cranes are gone, their
Enamel blues, reds, and greens, won’t
Come back. But we kept their smile,
And now we too can fly.
