Walking Around

Walking around, a cat came to me

And smiled.

I asked for her name, and she asked

For mine.

A cat and I, lost in a secluded

Part of town.

Me, looking for a friend, and the cat

Looking for someone to talk to.

The cat had had an interesting life,

And it made me feel as if I yet

Had lived enough.

What is enough? The cat said.

The cat spoke of places I had never seen,

With people just like me, she said,

Looking for a friend.

The cat’s eyes moved around like blueberries.

Walking around, I found a cat,

Who talked to me with a tenderness

I did not know. Walking around I found

A cat to keep me company.
